Watching game 3 of the NBA finals between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Orlando Magic made me wonder, just what are they putting in the water down in Orlando.
The Magic shot an NBA finals record 75 percent in the first half and ended with another NBA record 62 percent shooting for the game. The question is... how long can this continue. I figure not for long.
Even with their great shooting, the Magic only won by four. The score could have been reversed if Kobe would have kept control of the ball in the final seconds.
Orlando's offense was magical leading to five of their players scoring 18 points or more. The Lakers, looking mediocre tonight, still had this game within their reach.
I can assure you that Pau Gasol and Lamar Odom won't combine for five rebounds on Thursday and that Mickael Pirtrus wont score 18 off the bench.
Rafer Alston looked less like Rafer Alston and more like Skip-to-my-Lou. Shannon Brown, who didn't play tonight, will surely being seeing Alston on Thursday.
Kobe looked spectacular in the first quarter scoring 17 in first quarter. This is no surprise, he scored 18 in the third quarter of game one. What is surprising is the fact that he went four of 15 after that. Whats really surprising is that he missed five free throws, especially in a game the Lakers lost by four. This from the same guy who scored 61 and went 20 for 20 at the line in New York back in February.
Orlando had a lucky night thats all. They had the momentum of almost stealing a win in Los Angeles. They had the home crowd. They had everything to play for. The Lakers who had a commanding 2-0 lead in the series got a bit comfortable. That though wont happen again.
On the other hand the Lakers could have the same kind of game on thursday and still win. LA wont have much adjusting to do, Orlando has all the pressure of keeping the high percentage shooting.
Lakers should be able to take it in five because I don't see the Magic playing any better than they did tonight, but like the past three series, the Lakers are due for a bad game. So i'm predicting a Laker championship in six.
Enough said.

Vick is out. Football becomes entertaining once again.
With Michael Vick finally out of prison, sports fans can now be excited to watch football again.
For those of you too young to remember, Vick was and probably still is the most explosive quarterback in the league today.
His speed and agility was key in Atlanta's success a few years back. No one was able to stop him. Defensive linemen were too slow to catch him, linebackers weren't quick enough to adjust when he would run one way and then fake to the other side.
Watching him is like watching Dwayne Wade this season. He did things you never thought you'd see a QB do.
As we all know, Vick was arrested on dogfighting charges and spent his last 21 months in a Kansas prison facility. He has two more months left that will be spent in home confinement.
Vick, at one time the highest paid player in the league, will have to report to a probation officer sometime this week and will have to work a construction job at $10 per hour to pay off any remaining debts after they already took most of his possessions and left him bankrupt.
I don't think what this guy did was right and he should have learned his lesson in prison. But, the fact of the matter is that Vick has paid his debt to society and should be reinstated to the NFL.
What Vick has done on the field is something that will not be forgotten and teams are now trying to mimic what Vick has done.
The whole wildcat offense we saw practically every Sunday last year was because of Vick. No QB has the explosiveness to put on a show like him. Football was exciting when Vick was around. Fox sports practically showed Falcon games because of this one man.
He still has to finish off his legal issues before he can even think about going back to the NFL. That is, if Roger Goodell, the NFL commissioner decides to reinstate him.
I'm not saying what Vick did is ok but he did comply with the law and his debt to society is almost paid. I do hope that he learned something from all this whole experience.
If Vick does return to the NFL, hopefully this season, he'll probably return to boos from the fans, but hopefully he'll be able to shrug it off so we can finally see what we've been missing out on these past two seasons.
