Out of gas in Denver

Friday the 13th turned to be a bad day for the Los Angeles Lakers following a 105-79 loss against the Denver Nuggets.

First quarter look great, Lakers winning the quarter 28-26.

The Lakers' Ron Artest missed three point before halftime, as the Lakers trailed the Nuggets 58-56.

The second half looked as if the Lakers left their legs in the locker room while they try anything to make a shot.

After shooting 47.7% in the first half, the Lakers made only 10-of-44 shots in the 2nd half (22.7%) to finish at 35% on the night.

The Lakers scored only 23 points in the second half, making it the lowest scored points in the franchise history.

Despite this game being the second of a back to back and the Lakers arriving in Denver at 4 a.m. There are no excuses for the lost, it is a straight up loss against the Nuggets team.

It's okay, I will give up this 26 point loss up for the 27 point win the Lakers had in Game 6 in the Western Conference Finals that booked us a ticket for the NBA Finals any time of the day.

It was expected that the "Thuggets" were going to come out and prove something to the Lakers after losing to the Lakers in the Western Conference Finals.

Lakers fall to 7-2 on the season and now head back home to honor old teammate, Trevor Ariza, in a mini ring ceremony and a game that I will be attending.

The Suns ain't shining in Los Angeles

The Phoenix Suns arrived in Los Angeles to find out they are just not for real.

With the best record in the first 10 games of the early NBA season, the Suns hit reality once again as they lost 121-102 against the Los Angeles Lakers tonight at Staples Center.

The Lakers scored 78 points in the paint as Andrew Bynum scored 26 points and had 15 rebounds against the small undersized Suns' big men.

Most Valuable Player of the NBA, Kobe Bryant, added 29 points in the blow out victory over the Suns.

The Lakers improved to 7-1 on the season as they head to Denver for the end of the back-to-back tomorrow night.

Allstar Pau Gasol missed his eighth straight regular season game as he continues to rehab the injured hamstring.

Josh Powell and Shannon Brown continued to show success as they combined to score 24 points off the bench.

Brown had several highlights tonight, with back to back dunks and a triple to score seven straight points in a row as he finished with 10 points.

Dangerous signs for the league, great signs for Lakers' fans as the team has someone stepping up every night, since Gasol is out and the team is winning.

"Reason they're the World Champs... don't know if they have a weakness," said Suns' Coach Alvin Gentry.

Week 9 Predictions

So last week I ended up going 9-4. 1 shy of the 10-3 goal i had hoped for. Lets hope for that one extra win this week.

Wash at Atl: Coming off a tough loss to the Saints, the Falcons should easily take care of business. Atl wins.

Arizona at Chicago: these are two up and down teams so far but I think Cutler should be able to take over at home. Chi wins.

Baltimore at Cincinnati: Another rematch of some AFC North foes. Cincy got the win last time but I believe thats because the Ravens underestimated them. This time, the Ravens will be ready and Cedric Benson wont rack up over 100-yards rushing on the Baltimore D. Bal wins.

Hou at Indy: Houston has been playing great lately, despite me not picking them, but I really don't like their chances against the undefeated Colts, especially at Indianapolis. Colts win.

KC at Jac: one of the least exciting games this week, I think Garrard and Jones-Drew can finally do something against the weak KC defense.

Miami at NE: One of the games to watch this week. Lets see how that wildcat works against that frailing NE defense. I do see Brady racking up big numbers though. NE wins.

GB at TB: Aaron Rodgers humiliating loss at the hands of his former mentor should be haunting him this whole week, but what should you do when your feeling down and you don't have a bye week, well, you play the Bucs, who have ben feeling this feeling all season. Packers win.

Car at NO: Can anyone stop the saints right now. If someone can, it's certainly not the Panthers. NO wins.

Detroit at Sea: Seatle definitely has a chance to gain some ground on the NFC west with an easy game against Detroit. Sea wins.

SD Vs. NYG: The giants have to get out of their slump one day. I predict it will be Sunday against the chargers and their poor run game. NYG wins.

Tenn at SF: Tenn only has one win but their a different team now. San Fran has been horrible these past couple of weeks. Even though the niners are at home, i'm gonna give it to vince young. Tenn wins.

Dallas at Phil: One of the best games to watch this week. Just like I said last week, Philly has too many weapons for almost every defense, Dallas is no exception. Phil wins.

MNF Pitt at Denver: Pittsburgh has been playing great lately. their pass game is finally insync with their run game and their looking more and more like the championship steelers of last season. Pitt wins.

Yank's give it to Hamels, Phils

So these first two games of the series was what we pretty much expected, good offense, but great pitching. Cliff Lee threw a magical complete game in game 1 allowing only 1 run with 6 hits and 10 k's in 9 innings. CC Sabathia threw a great game as well allowing only 2 runs but the Yankee offensive simply had no answer for Lee.
Game 2 was just about the same with A.J. Burnett throwing a gem allowing 1 run where as the rejuvenated Pedro Martinez allowed 3 runs letting the Yankee fans know who's who's Daddy.
Game 3 was a battle of Andy Pettitte, the pitcher with the most post season wins in history against Cole Hamels, the reigning World Series MVP. Hamels isn't the same pitcher we saw last post season and Pettitte is getting up their in age, so we knew this one was going to be a hitting duel and it didn't disappoint as the Yank's took back home-field advantage in an 8-5 victory.
In a game that saw 6 home runs, the fans certainly got what they wanted out of these two juggernaut offenses. Even the first ever post season home run review on a homer by A-rod that bounced off a camera in the crowd.
How does A-rod do these things? You can recall last year when the home run review was put into place, A-rod was the first player to have a homer reviewed after he hit one into the catwalk at Tropicana Field.
Staying on the topic of A-rod, who seemed to come out of the 0 for 8 slump with 6 strikeouts the first two games, hits the controversial homer and walked a few more times to get on base.
The Yank's were definitely on their game tonight. Matsui got his second homer of the series coming in as a pinch hitter as they're playing by the NL rules in Philly. Nick Swisher, who was criticized the whole postseason for his poor play, led off the 5th with a double and then homered in the 6th.
Heck, even Pettitte got a hit off Hamels. Not just a hit, an RBI single and then a run. Derek Jeter was seen telling them umpire that their all going to be hearing about that one for a while. It was Pettitte's 14th RBI of his 19 year career.
For the Phillies, Jason Werth had a good game scoring 2 home runs, unfortunately, no one else did much to help him out. Ryan Howard, the post season's most productive player went 0-4 with 3 strike outs. Chase Utley, the player who hit two home runs against Sabathia in game 1, also went 0-4.
Mariano Rivera than came out in the 9th and did what he's been doing his whole career, finishing off games. He did it beautifully allowing no hits in less than 10 pitches.
This was what we all wanted, to see the balls fly out of the park, because while we all think pitching is great, we all came to the park to see these people hit, and the harder the better.
Game 4 of this series continues on Sunday, where I believe it will be another bomb fest when Joe Blanton takes the mound for Philly against a short rested Sabathia. I believe the Yanks we'll do some damage against Blanton as well as the philly's giving a hurting to Sabathia.
I give the edge to the Phillies because they need to tie up the series now or they may not have enough confidence to do it after being down 3-1 in the series. Whatever happens, two things I'm sure of, Jimmy Rollins' statement of the Phillies taking it in 5 is no more and, if the Philies want to win it, their going to have to do it in New York. Good luck with that.

week 8 predictions

So last week i went 9-4, 1 shy of my goal but i'm getting better. lets see whats going on this Sunday.

Denver and Baltimore: Denver's been a really big surprise this whole season but I really think Baltimore will finally pull out out of their 3 game losing streak here. Bal wins.

Houston at Buffalo: Both teams have played well these past two weeks but Houston's been tearing it up offensively scoring a total of 52 points these past two weeks, plus I've bet against Houston the past two weeks and lost so I have to pick them. Hou wins.

Cleveland at Chicago: A game against Cleveland, where the fans don't even believe in the team anymore is a great way for Jay Cutler to get his confidence going after getting crushed by Cincinnati last week. Chi wins.

Seattle at Dallas: Dallas has been looking good recently now that they got someone to replace t.o., no not Roy Williams, but the new star in town, Miles Austin. Dal wins.

St. Louis at Detroit: One of the least exciting games this week, but i'm going to give it to the Rams, because despite their record, they do have some decent talent and right now that Detroit's QB Matt Stafford and WR Calvin Johnson are still questionable helps St. Louis' cause even more. St Louis wins.

SF at Indianapolis: SF started out well but hasn't done much since. Indi shows no sign of slowing down as they remain undefeated. Indi wins.

Miami at NYJ: New York's chance to get some revenge for the Monday night beating they got by the wildcats. Something tells me Rex Ryan's defense will be ready this time. Jets win.

NYG at Philly: the Yankees and the Phillies, oops, that's across the street. The eagles and the G-men will be a great divisional battle. McNabb has too many weapons now for that Giants secondary. Eagles win it, so do the Phillies.

Oak at SD: Chargers coming off an impressive blowout of the Chiefs, they'll do the same to the Raiders. SD wins.

Jacksonville at Tennesse: Vince young will prove to all, especially Jeff Fisher, that he's still got it. Tenn wins.

Minn at GB: Probably the most hyped game of the week, as it should be. Favre's triumphant return to Green Bay, its in a wrong uniform though, the most hated uniform in Wisconsin. Favre's a very emotional player, he'll over play himself trying to get his revenge. GB wins and Arron Rodgers will have his freedom.

Carolina at Arizona: Carolina has been disappointing me all season. Ari wins.

MNF- Atlanta at NO: Another great divisional match-up. I dare you to bet against New Orleans because I won't. NO wins.

Ok, another 13 games this week, lets hope for that 10-3 record.
