AI for one more season?

Allen Iverson soon to be a Grizzle?

As of what is left in the disappointing but incredible career of AI, he is looking at his last possible contact with a mediocre team named the Memphis Grizzles.

After the trade to the Nuggets, AI's career went down hill as he had two disappointing seasons being teammates with hotheaded Carmelo Anthony.

After the third year in Denver and his contract coming off the books, the Nuggets traded AI in the first weeks of last season to the Detroit Pistons, where he will complain and stress out on being put on the bench and come off for Richard Hamilton.

The Pistons got worse well the Nuggets made it to the Western Conference Finals as the lost to the will be NBA Champions Los Angeles Lakers.

Allen Iverson who was the No. 1 pick in the 1996 NBA draft, was a increable player who was spectacular and was a fan favorite to many fans including me.

His high point would have to be when he lead the Philadelphia 76ers to the NBA Finals in 2001, where they would lose to the would be Los Angeles Lakers. His low point would have to be last year's season with the Pistons, as everything for him and the Pistons got worse everyday.

I really hope he gets to play for one more season even though he can't play like he did in his prime years because no matter how rude he can be, the man was a great baller who could brake anyone's ankles who tried to guard him, including the great Kobe Bryant.

Dodgers holding on

What is up with Manny 'El Maniaco' Ramirez?

It has been no secret that what was once an event every time Manny came to bat, is now a question mark, thinking if the man is even going get on base.

Ramirez as same for the rest of the Dodgers have been slipping up of the last weeks. As the Dodgers 9.5 game lead over the Colorado Rockies and San Francisco Giants has narrowed down to 4.5 games.

Dodger fans for the first time all season are near to press the panic button.

With winning the first two games against the Chicago Cubs in the 4-game series, and a 3-game series coming up against the Rockies. It is very important that the Dodgers win as many as they can in these seven games.

With unexpected injuries in the starting pitching rotation, the Dodgers have been scrapping to find pitchers to keep them in games.

Adding Relievers George Sherrill and Vicente Padilla, the Dodgers are hoping they can help them return to the early success the team had in the beginning of the season.

With a week to go in August and fairly easy month in September, Dodger analysis Eric Karros says the Dodgers have no problem holding the NL West and playing October ball.

Brett to world, "Just Kidding"

Brett Farve decided to come out of retirement once again as he signs another contract, this time with the Minnesota Vikings.

Farve will also play in the Vikings preseason game against the Chiefs this Friday. Not only will he play, but Farve will be the starting quarterback over Tavaris Jackson and Sage Rosenfels who have practiced with the team since the beginning.

Farve had surgery on his arm back in May and then practiced with some high school kids a couple of times, and yep, that should be enough to get him some NFL action.

Not to bad-mouth Farve or anything, he's had a great career and I would vote him in as a hall of famer, but this is a guy who just three weeks ago said he wasn't physically able to go through another season.

The first time he retired he said he didn't have anything left. He then signed a year deal with the New York Jets.

He came out looking great leading the Jets to an 8-3 record through their first 11 games. Then something happened. Farve tore his bicep and then everything just fell apart. The Jets went on to lose four out of their last five games.

Farve came out looking very fatigued and somewhat not wanting to play. Will the same thing happen this year? I think not.

Farve's arm is all better but that's not why this season will be much better for him. Lets see some factors that will help Farve along the way.

The Vikings now are in a better situation then the Jets were in last year. The Vikings were able to make the playoffs last year without Farve. So Farve can only help.

Farve won't have all the pressure that the city of New York puts on star quarterback. Get ready Sanchez. Eli, you've earned your keep.

The Jets didn't have much of a running game. The Vikings have the best running back in the game today in Adrian Peterson. This means less passes Farve has to throw and less sacks he will take. Less likely he will injure himself.

Vikings also have a good defense, way better then what the Jets had to offer Farve last year. This means less points Farve has to put up on the offensive end.

This time Favre has Rosenfels and Jackson as his back ups, two quarterbacks perfectly capable of filling in when Farve needs his rest.

Last year Farve had Kellen Clemens as his back-up. For some reason Clemons is still up for the starting job against Mark Sanchez. Cmon.

Farve will be playing half of his games inside a dome. Which is favorable for Farve since, at his age, playing in the snow in temperatures below zero probably won't suit him well.

Farve is back in the NFC North. A division he's known for over 15 years. He knows how the Vikings work, how the Bears and the Lions work, but most importantly, how the Packers work.

This brings me to my final point and probably the biggest reason Farve is back. The reason he doesn't want to say, to get revenge on the Packers.

To get back at the team he helped win a championship. The same team who turned him down the first time he came back. The team who gave the job to Aaron Rodgers, the young player Farve himself helped mentor.

So for whatever reason Farve is back, eh, who cares, Farve is back!

Another side of Tiger

Tiger Woods shocked the world once again Sunday. This time though, he didn't come back from five strokes down, he didn't win a major on one good leg. No. Woods shocked the world in a different kind of way.

After entering the final round with a two shot lead, Tiger somehow manages to shoot one of his worst scores since the 2006 U.S. Open, handing the win over to Y.E. Yang. Very surprising since this was his first ever loss after going into the final round with the lead. Tiger is now 14-1 in that category.

It looked like a sure win for Tiger who finished the first round with a one stroke lead. Tiger then roared through the second round to end that day with a four shot lead.

On the third round though, Tiger got a little bit lazy. He wasn't the aggressive eagle-birdie Tiger we've all come to know. He tried to play it safe and stick to par, but the competition caught up leaving Tiger only to strokes up.

Tiger still kept the lead, albeit having a so-so day. But there was nothing to fear. This was Tiger Woods we were talking about. The man who had never lost a tournament when going into the final round with the lead. So what could possibly go wrong?

Well, something did go wrong. Tiger had lost his shot Sunday. On his final round, Tiger shot a 75 shooting for only two birdies and five bogeys. The previous three rounds, Tiger shot 12 birdies with only four bogeys.

At the end of it all when Tiger was asked about his final round let-down, he said he hit the ball well, but when it came down to the green, he just couldn't get the ball in the hole.

For those who arn't to familiar with the game of golf (Javier), just picture Kobe Bryant driving down the lane, slashing through defenders and crossing-over anyone in his path, but at the end of it, not being able to make the lay-up or the dunk. And Tiger didn't even have anyone in his face.

So what did we see? We saw Tiger blow a major after it pretty much had his name all over it. It's OK though, after all, Tiger Woods is human right? I guess we just found out.

Will Vick work in Philly?

Michael Vick recently signed a year contract with an option for a second year with the Philadelphia Eagles.

To the dismay of many (P.E.T.A., about half the eagle's fan base, everyone else in the NFC East) Vick could be playing again as soon as October 18th.

But with a starting Quarterback like Donovan McNabb and a future QB like Kevin Kolb pretty much set in place, where does this leave Vick?

It seems Vick will be primarily used for the Wildcat Offense.

It doesn't help Eagles coach Andy Reid to say that to the whole world. Sure, defensive coordinators should be scared of Vick, but should we expect a run every time Vick steps onto the field?

Vick isn't known for his throwing skills, if he was there would be no need for McNabb. If he had a better arm, teams would be throwing themselves onto Vick.

The thing is, there is a lot of pressure now on the Eagles. They were already named a contender this season, and last season could have been Reid and McNabb's last if not for the hot streak that led them all the way to the NFC Championship.

Many people are wondering if Vick can really make a difference out of this desperation move by the Eagles. Their window is getting smaller everyday as McNabb gets ready to celebrate his 33rd birthday this season; veteran runnningback Brian Westbrook will turn 30 next month and has already been suffering with injurys the past couple of years.

Kolb recently injured himself during training camp, thats why the eagles reached out and got Vick. Now the Eagles will have to deal with Vick and everything that comes with him.

The main thing right now is the public concern over this matter. Protesters have already gathered and shown their disgust on this whole situation. One Eagles fan had a sign reading "Hide your beagle, Vick's an Eagle."

Seems like the team would rather deal with peace loving animal rights activists then the overly aggressive Eagles fans who would turn on their franchise player after a bad game.

Even baseball's Philadelphia Phillies second baseman Jimmy Rollins called out the fans last year calling them front runners. Philly fans won't hesistate to boo you, they'll judge your every move.

The other concern is is Vick ready physically. The reason everyone used to be so in awe of Vick and the reason why the Eagles signed him is because of his footwork. Only three years ago, Vick became the first QB to rush for over 1,000 yards.

This is the smart thing about the Eagles though, they only signed Vick to a $1.6 million deal. If he doesn't work out, they can trade him or even release him with little financial loss.

The great thing about Vick is that he is a very versatile player. With his speed and agility, if he still has it, he can be a great asset to Westbrook and the eagle's running game. McNabb and Vick can even be on the field at the same time, just imagine what that'll do to defenses.

A whole new offensive playbook will have to be thought up, and the possibilities, well, they'll be endless.

Michael Vic back in the NFL

Michael Vick signed a 2 year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The deal comes a month after Vick was cleared by the NFL to be reinstated, after serving a year in prison for dog fighting.

It is great news to hear that a team is giving this man a chance, because I believe he has served his time and paid his deeds from the crimes he did.

It is time for him to move onto the next chapter in his life, and allow him to redeem his image in the public eye.

He will not have the first chance to play right away, but I think being along side a player like Donovan McNabb, he can bring himself back into football form.

It will be exciting to see him back on the field and playing the wild running game he was famous for.

Welcome back Michael Vick and I am glad to see back you are being given the chance to get your life back together.

Revenge, Broomsticks in the Bronx

This past Sunday the New York Yankees got their revenge on the Boston Red Sox with a four game sweep in the Bronx. This coming after Boston had won all eight previous meetings this season.

The much anticipated series opened up Thursday and didn't fail to disappoint. The Yankees, who were on a three game winning streak opened up with their young gun Joba Chamberlain while the Sox, who were on a two game losing streak brought out veteran John Smoltz.

Chamberlain came out pitching five innings allowing only six hits and four runs while the Yankees took advantage of the aging Smoltz limiting him to only three innings by getting nine hits with eight runs off him.

The Yankees went on to win the series opener 13-6 with four Yankees swinging over the fences, including one by possible A.L. MVP Mark Teixeira. Smoltz was designated for assignment the following day.

The following three games proved to be all about pitching. Game two featured an aces match up Between Boston's Josh Beckett and New York's A.J. Burnett.

Beckett threw and impressive seven innings allowing four hits and no runs. Burnett, the Yankees $82 million offseason aquisition gave them their money's worth by pitching an even better seven innings allowing only one hit with no runs. This is why the Yankees got Burnett, he can pitch against the A.L. East, and he can win.

Game two went on past midnight until A-fraud, also known as Alex Rodriguez hit a two-run bomb in the bottom of the 15th inning to give the Yankees a 2-0 walk-off win and their second win against Boston. Boston's bullpen, which was great at the begining of the season, has let down once again.

Game three showed off New Yorks other pitching ace, former Cy Young winner CC Sabathia going up against Boston's Clay Buchholz. Buchholz threw a decent six innings giving up six hits and two runs. Sabathia gave up only two hits with no runs while the Yankees rolled over the Sox 5-0 in a game where the Bronx bombers scored more runs then Boston had hits.

Game four was probably the most hyped up game for two reasons: 1) The yankees had a chance to sweep the Sox, something they haven't done this century, and 2) It was being televised on ESPN; everyone outside the Boston and New York markets were finally able to watch not just the highlights.

Sunday night showed Boston's 25 year old Jon Lester up against New York's 37 year old Andy Pettitte. They both pitched seven innings and gave up 5 hits. The only difference is, one of those hits lester gave up was a solo home run to Rodriguez.

The bullpens then came in and the game got exciting. In the top of the eighth, Boston's Victor Martinez hit a two-run homerun off Yankee Reliever Phil Coke. As Yankee fans were about to put away the broomsticks, with two outs Johnny Damon hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game.

Two pitches later, before the fans could even sit down from celebrating the first, Mark Teixeira hits another homerun into the second deck that gives the yankees a 3-2 lead and sends the fans into an uproar of cheers ultimately summoning Texeira, who has played so well this season, up for a curtain call.

But the inning wasn't even close to being over. Still with two outs, Nick Swisher hits a two RBI single to bring in Rodriguez and Jorge Posada, and the Yankees now led 5-2. In the top of the ninth the Yankees brought in future hall-of-famer Mariano Rivera to close out the series. With cheers and chants of "Sweep Sweep" echoing throughout the sold-out crowd, Rivera got Jacoby Ellsbury to easily ground out to first and seal the deal.

So what did this series do for both of these teams? Well, it gave the Yankees and six and a half lead over the Sox in the division. The Sox were left tied for the lead in the A.L. wildcard race, and the Tampa Bay Rays are now within striking distance of taking second place in the division.

Did it have any mental affect on them? The Yankees probably feel more confident heading into the end of the season, it has to be a load off their shoulders knowings they won a series against Boston, heck, even winning a game probably felt like a big relief. Sox manager, Terry Francona, said his team will recover and is feeling confident in moving on.

There's still a whole lot of baseball to play and momentums shift, just like both of these teams have shifted since they last played in June. Who knows, these teams can end up meeting in October. The Sox know what October ball is all about. The Yankees have the weapons to go all the way. The only question is who can stay hot enough to get it done?

LA Dominating Baseball

Normally what was thought as a dream could possibly become reality in three months.

That dream is a freeway World Series.

The Los Angeles Dodgers as well as The Los Angeles (Anahiem) Angeles are No. 1 and 2 in Major League Baseball in August.

With only two months before the playoffs begin, the Dodgers and Angels are in no signs of slowing down as they continue to roll pass teams.

The Dodgers who made a slight trade at deadline improved as they picked up a set up reliever that can benefit them down the line in the playoffs.

The Angels who had a serious chance to get ace pitcher Roy Halladay but didn't pull the trigger, is looking the team of last year when they won 100 games.

As much as these examples sound great to believe that this dream of a freeway World Series is possible.

Let's not forget that as soon as October baseball arrives, anything can happen. Weird things happen every time once the playoffs come in baseball.

Last year the Dodgers carried the arrival of Manny Ramirez into the playoffs and swept the favorites to in the World Series last year; the Chicago Cubs.

As for the Angels who finished with a overall record 100-62, lost to the Boston Red Sox in the first round in four games. (It is not a surprise as the Angels always loses to the Red Sox every year in the playoffs.)

Either way as of right now Southern California is playing the best baseball in the nation.

All I hope is that these two teams can find their ways to get themselves into the World Seires so we can witness the first ever freeway World Series and the Dodgers could bring another World Series back to Los Angeles.
